Guillermo Varela, managing director of Rosewood Luang Prabang, is the youngest managing director in the history of Rosewood Hotels & Resorts®,
yet this native Costa Rican has more has 15 years of experience in the hospitality field, and for the last seven years, his roles were in Asia-Pacific.
Before joining Rosewood Luang Prabang, Guillermo worked with Aman Resorts, the ultra-luxury brand for celebrities, Royal Families and Aristocrats. His last position with Aman was as EAM Hotel & Residences at Amanzoe in Greece and earlier as Area EAM for his two properties in Sri Lanka, Amangalla and Amanwella. Guillermo started with Aman in Bali doing a short training with Amanusa, Amankila and Amandari.
Before his positions with Aman, Guillermo spent four years in Indonesia fueling his experience in the F&B field with the pre-opening and operation of properties by Alila Hotels and Resorts today Hyatt.
F & B’s roles were also part of Guillermo’s previous years’ projects, which included the conceptualization of a restaurant for Four Seasons Koh Samui, Thailand, W Hotel in Barcelona, Spain and St Regis in Mallorca, Spain
Guillermo has a Diploma in Marketing Mix from Cornell University in New York, USA a Masters in Leadership from the prestigious University of Oxford , UK and a Diploma in Culinary Arts and Economics from the Le Cordon Bleu School in Madrid, Spain
His favourite motto is “The best leaders have a high factor of consideration. They really care about their people”. He loves to travel, good, architecture, and cultural events.
